German Song Onstage: Keynote Talk, Workshop & Recital

Wigmore Hall, London

How and why did musicians start programming song recitals the way they do now? Join leading figures in the field of Lieder to explore the history of song performance, before a recital of Schumann’s Dichterliebe as it would have been performed by his wife Clara, interleaved with solo piano works. Talk: Song expert Susan Youens discusses the great Lieder singers of Schubert’s day. Workshop: Singer-pianist duos from the Royal College of Music work with Christoph Prégardien and Graham Johnson, exploring how programmes for song recitals are put together. Recital: Stephan Loges and Imogen Cooper perform Schumann’s Dichterliebe Op. 48 as it would have been played by his wife Clara, interleaved with solo piano works. Part of the German Song Onstage Conference. See http://www.rcm.ac.uk/germansongonstage for full details
