Lay Down Your Arms! Maxi Blaha as Bertha von Suttner

Room 104, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU

Lay Down Your Arms! On Peace in Europe

Acclaimed Austrian actress Maxi Blaha will perform her one-woman show Soul of Fire inspired by first female Nobel Peace Prizewinner, author and journalist Bertha von Suttner, described by the Sydney Morning Herald as 'an elegant little play that gently and economically recreates the life and spirit of Bertha von Suttner, peace activist, writer and, in 1905, the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Austrian actress Maxi Blaha brings a restless intelligence to the role.'
The performance will be followed by a short lecture by Dr Daniel Laqua (Northumbria University), a specialist in 19th and 20th-century history and European Peace Movements. He is the author of 'Pacifism in Fin-de-Siècle Austria: The Politics and Limits of Peace Activism' (The Historical Journal, vol. 57,1 (2014)).
Both events in English.

Attendance free – seats limited  advance registration recommended:
