Reading of Writer in Residence Jens Wonneberger
Queen Mary University of London ArtsOne, Lecture Theatre 327 Mile End Road London E1 4NS United Kingdom
The German Subject Group at Queen Mary University of London is happy to announce the reading of its current Writer in Residence, Jens Wonneberger.
All are welcome!
The reading will be in German.
Jens Wonneberger is a trained engineer who started his career as an author in 1992. His literary oeuvre comprises poetry, fiction, non-fiction and literary criticism. Another important aspect of his work is his concern for the literary and non-literary topographies of Dresden. He has received granted a number of awards, some of which have entailed residencies abroad.
Wonneberger’s current – and arguably his most explicitly political – novel is set in a small village in the former GDR. Kramer, a librarian in his mid-fifties, visits his daughter Justine. Their relationship is far from harmonious. On his journey Kramer meets an elderly villager who seems to know everything and everyone in the village, but likes nothing. His arguments remind Kramer of slogans used by right-wing populists, nevertheless he starts to develop an interest in the old man and ultimately to enter into dialogue with him.
