THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN

The London Theatre 443 New Cross Road New Cross London SE14 6TA

Written during the Second World War, The Good Person of Szechwan exudes Brecht’s forthright and unhinged style of theatre. The play follows the young prostitute, Shen Teh, on her mission to remain good according to the rules set forth by the gods. But the good citizens of Szechwan take advantage of Shen Teh’s goodness, and to defend her livelihood, Shen Teh must assume the cold and unwavering male alter ego, Shui Ta.
