Vienna Tales on Page and Screen: Migrants Today
IMLR, Room 246, University of London, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU
The new seminar series 'Vienna Tales on Page and Screen', brings together short stories by well-known literary figures such as Arthur Schnitzler and films on contemporary themes made in or set in Vienna. Seminars are based on selected stories from the book Vienna Tales, an anthology of short prose set in Vienna translated by Deborah Holmes (Oxford University Press, 2014; ISBN 978-0-19-966979-0). This first seminar will look at the Bulgarian-born Austrian writer Dimitré Dinev’s story ‘Spas sleeps’ (Spas schläft) from his anthology Ein Licht über dem Kopf (Zsolnay, 2005), and the film Macondo (2014) by the Iranian-Austrian film-maker Sudabeh Mortezai.
