Who Am I – No System Is Perfect
Goethe-Institut London, 50 Princes Gate, Exhibition Road
Film Tom Schilling (Oh Boy) plays Benjamin, a shy student who may be pretty much invisible to the people around him, but can have considerable impact on a computer server. This comes in handy when he gets hold of exam questions to impress Marie. Though his hacking coup fails to attract Marie’s attention and lands him a punishment of social work, it introduces him to the charismatic Max and his friends. Together they form the hacker group CLAY (CLOWNS LAUGHING @ YOU) and launch some spectacular cyber-attacks, for example against Neo Nazis or a pharmaceutical company. This is a lot of fun and Benjamin enjoys being part of a cause. But then the BDN (Federal Intelligence Service), Europol and the Russian cyber mafia direct their attention to them and Benjamin all of a sudden is the most wanted hacker in the world. Picking up on the increasing number of cyber-crimes and variously motivated hacking attacks on the computer systems of public oranisations and private companies, Baran bo Odar has created a stylish, fast paced cyber thriller with a tight plot and an idea or two for making digital space behind the screen tangible. Germany 2014, colour, 106mins. German with English subtitles. Director: Baran bo Odar. With Tom Schilling, Elyas M'Barek, Hannah Herzsprung, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Antoine Monot Jr., Trine Dyrholm.
